quick update. we have power and we have it all the time!! found out that the local power folks (known throughout Haiti as EDH) have found a much cheaper fuel to use in the diesel generators, I am guessing some kind of biodiesel. They can now run the generators much more than they could in the past. We have not had to use the generator now for an entire week, unheard of in these parts. It apparently will continue this way...until it stops. :) But in the meantime we have power about 18 hours a day. Now if someone would open a Burger King down the street.......

    tell the edh people in st marc to talk to the edh people in port --- the memo about cheaper fuel has not made its way south yet ;(

    hmmm, you didn't get your EDH decoder ring in the mail? too bad.... :) our other conjecture is that eventually, like all things, there will be a price to pay and we will go w/o power for 2 months when the fuel is gone. while it is here it is good, we are going on something like 11 or 12 days now with power every day for the majority of the day and not having to run the generator. it sounds like we will have a good week! I'll e mail you some power ok? look for the message........
